János Lestár (February 24, 1931 – February 25, 2011) was a Hungarian film director born in Budapest. He studied directing at the University of Theatre and Film Arts from 1952 to 1957. His career spanned various roles in film studios, including assistant director at Budapest Filmstúdió and later directing at MAFILM and Hungarian documentary film studios. Notable for creating many documentaries on military life, Lestár co-directed short films and made documentaries that explored both military and cultural themes. He was married to actress Szilvia Dallos and had one daughter.
