Trained by Markku Heimonen, he achieved notable success, winning a silver medal at the 1991 European U20 Championships with a throw of 75 meters, and a bronze at the 1990 U20 World Championships with a throw of 72.30 meters. His personal best in men's javelin is 78.02 meters, achieved in 1995.
