Jaroslav Olšava, born Jaroslav Moštěk, was a Catholic priest and writer from the Czech Republic. He was born on April 6, 1922, in Nová Říše, Moravia, into a large family with 15 children. He was ordained a priest in Brno in 1948 and served primarily in Southern Moravia and Eastern Bohemia. Although he displayed literary talent from a young age, he only began publishing after 1989. His experiences during the communist dictatorship provided him with many themes for his books, which were mostly self-published.
