Jaroslav Vajda was an influential American hymnist born on April 28, 1919, in Lorain, Ohio. He began writing hymns later in life, producing over 200 original and translated hymns featured in over 65 hymnals worldwide. He served in various pastoral roles and contributed significantly to hymnody through his editorial work and participation in hymnal commissions. Vajda was recognized as a Fellow of The Hymn Society and received an honorary doctorate from Concordia Seminary in 2007. He passed away on May 10, 2008, at the age of 89.
