Jason Richard Swallen (1903-1991) was a prominent American agrostologist. He served with the Bureau of Plant Industry at the United States Department of Agriculture from 1936 to 1946. In 1946, he joined the Department of Botany at the Smithsonian Institution's United States Botanic Garden, where he became head of the herbarium in 1950, succeeding Ellsworth P. Killip. Swallen collected flora in extensive regions of the southwestern United States and in 1932 in the Yucatán Peninsula, collecting grasses in Quintana Roo at Lake Chichancanab, Tancah, and Cozumel Island.
