He served as the Secretary of Communications and Transportation under President Andrés Manuel López Obrador starting in December 2018. Prior to this role, he was the head of the engineering school at the National Autonomous University of Mexico and the Under Secretary of Communications from 1982 to 1988. Espriú has notable experience in the airline industry, having been the CEO of Mexicana de Aviación from 1994 to 1995. His tenure included involvement in the controversial cancellation of the Mexico City Texcoco Airport construction.
