Jay Beckenstein is an American fusion saxophonist, known for playing soprano and alto saxophones. Born on May 14, 1951, in New York, he grew up in a musical family, with his mother being an opera singer and his father a jazz enthusiast. He began playing saxophone at the age of seven. After high school, he studied at the State University of New York in Buffalo with his friend Jeremy Wall. In 1974, he co-founded the band Spyro Gyra, where he continues to perform, and in 2000, he released an album under his own name.
