Jean Berthet was a French poet born on April 12, 1911, in Rouen and passed away on June 17, 2002, in Clichy. He was recognized by the Académie française with the Maïse-Ploquin-Caunan Prize in 1987 and awarded the Heredia Prize as well as the grand prize of the Société des poètes français in 1994 for his entire body of work. Berthet wrote under several pseudonyms, including Jean Chicaille, Jean Derouen, Jean de La Rivière, José Sansonnet, and J.-J. Dupont-Durand.
