Jean Kellens is a Belgian Iranist, born on January 26, 1944, in Seraing, specializing in the Avesta. He served as an assistant at the University of Mainz from 1974 to 1980 and taught at the University of Liège until 1993, after which he became a professor at the Collège de France. Kellens is renowned for his expertise in Avestan grammar and employs a method he calls 'strict philology', which relies solely on linguistic analysis while rejecting later Zoroastrian traditions and historical sources. Since 1994, he has been a member of the Académie royale des Sciences, des Lettres et des Beaux-Arts de Belgique.
