Since 2016, he has been a daily columnist for the newspaper's V section, covering topics like media, art, and culture. He served as the ombudsman for de Volkskrant from August 2017 to Summer 2019. Geelen faced controversy in November 2010 when he was falsely accused of pedophilia on a television program.
