Jeanne Blackistone Dorsey Mandel (1937-2001) served as the First Lady of Maryland and was the second wife of Governor Marvin Mandel. She was a trailblazer in St. Mary's County, being the first woman elected to public office in 1968 as a Town Commissioner and later as Leonardtown's first female police commissioner. Dorsey Mandel was also involved with the Southern Maryland Municipal League and the Board of Parks and Recreation. She passed away from ALS, leaving a legacy of public service and a notable family connection through her son, John Dorsey, a former NFL general manager.
