Jef D. Boeke is an American geneticist, founding director of the Institute for Systems Genetics at NYU Langone Medical Center. Previously, he was a faculty member at Johns Hopkins University, where he led the High Throughput Center. A distinguished member of several academies, Boeke is recognized for his pioneering work on DNA transposition mechanisms, coining the term 'retrotransposon.' He currently leads an initiative to synthesize the entire genome of Baker's Yeast and is involved in projects that explore the functions of non-coding DNA.
