Jef Turf was a Flemish leftist activist and nuclear physicist born on March 12, 1932, in Mechelen, Belgium. He joined the Communist Party of Belgium in 1963 and later became its Flemish president and political director of De Rode Vaan. Turf played a significant role in establishing the Frans Masereelfonds and the Flemish Marxist Journal. He also worked as a journalist for Belga. Notably, he published his memoirs in 2012, detailing his journey from nuclear physicist to Flemish communist. He passed away on October 12, 2022, at the age of 90.
