Jeffrey David Sachs, born on November 5, 1954, is an American economist and director of The Earth Institute. He became one of the youngest professors at Harvard University at 28 and is renowned for advising governments in Eastern Europe and developing countries during their transition from communism to market economies. He focuses on economic development, ecological sustainability, poverty alleviation, sustainable development, debt cancellation, and globalization. Sachs co-founded the Millennium Promise Alliance and served as a special advisor to UN secretaries-general on the Millennium Development Goals. He has authored three New York Times bestsellers.
