Jegard Kõmmus was an Estonian writer, local historian, linguist, and folklore collector born on December 21, 1914, in Sõru, Hiiumaa. He worked as a deep-sea sailor and port master in Hiiumaa. Throughout his career, he served as a correspondent for the folklore department of the Estonian Literary Museum and as an honorary correspondent for the Estonian Etnographic Museum. He published stories, memoirs, and poetry in the newspaper Nõukogude Hiiumaa from 1960 to 1987, also writing in the dialect of Emmaste parish.
