She studied at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in East Berlin during the 1950s, becoming the first Schlager singer at the institution. She rose to fame alongside Helga Brauer and Bärbel Wachholz in East Germany during the 1950s and 1960s and appeared in the 1962 musical 'Was halten Sie von Musik?'. After becoming a mother in 1963, she ended her singing career and worked as a singing instructor until 1994.
