Jeremy Cronin is a South African writer, poet, politician, and activist born in 1949. He is a member of the South African Communist Party and the ANC's national executive committee and served as a deputy minister in President Jacob Zuma's cabinet. Cronin earned his master's degree in philosophy in France during the 1970s. His work in the SACP's propaganda unit led to his imprisonment for seven years under the then-existing Internal Security Act. He was awarded the Ingrid Jonker Prize in 1983 for his poetry collection 'Inside and Out'.
