Jeremy Thorpe was a British politician and a member of the House of Commons representing North Devon from 1959 to 1979. He served as the leader of the Liberal Party. In May 1979, he was tried at the Old Bailey for conspiracy and incitement to murder, related to his previous homosexual relationship with model Norman Scott. Although he was acquitted of all charges, the scandal and its surrounding media frenzy effectively ended his political career.
