Jeroen Marie Jozef Chorus is a Dutch jurist and legal historian born on February 14, 1942, in Nijmegen. He grew up in Nijmegen and Oegstgeest, the son of psychologist Alfons Chorus. He graduated in law from Leiden University in 1966 and obtained his doctorate in 1976 on Roman law. Chorus served as a judge at the Arnhem District Court and later as a councilor at the Amsterdam Court of Appeal. In 1986, he became a professor of legal history at Leiden University, retiring in 1993 to return to the judicial role until 2012.
