Jerome Kurtz (1931–2015) was an American tax lawyer who served as the Commissioner of Internal Revenue from 1977 to 1980 under Jimmy Carter. He opposed tax policies favoring wealthy taxpayers and initiated crackdowns on tax shelters during his tenure. After leaving the IRS, he returned to private practice, became a lecturer on tax law at several universities, and also served as a visiting professor at Harvard Law School. He passed away from surgery complications, survived by two daughters.
