Jerrell Harris Shofner (1929–2017) was a distinguished American historian and professor at the University of Central Florida, where he specialized in Florida's history. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he earned advanced degrees from Florida State University. Shofner authored 16 books, including notable works on Florida's Black codes and the Reconstruction era. He chaired UCF's history department, became a professor emeritus, and served as president of the Florida Historical Society. His contributions to historical scholarship were widely recognized, particularly his thorough analysis of Jefferson County's development.
