Jerry Mateparae is a New Zealand public servant and military leader, born on November 14, 1954. He served as the 20th Governor-General of New Zealand and the 9th representative of the Queen in Niue. Prior to his governorship, he was the Chief of the New Zealand Defence Force from 2006 to 2011 and the second Māori Governor-General, following Sir Paul Reeves. He was appointed Governor-General on March 8, 2011, took office on August 31, 2011, and served until August 31, 2016, when he was succeeded by Dame Patsy Reddy.
