Jesper Lützen is a Danish mathematician and professor of the history of mathematics, born on October 8, 1951, in Svendborg. He earned a master's degree in mathematics and physics from Aarhus University in 1976 and completed a licentiate thesis in the history of mathematics in 1980, mentored by Kirsti Andersen. He obtained his doctorate from the University of Copenhagen in 1990. Lützen has been a professor at the University of Copenhagen since 2005 and is an active member of several mathematical societies, recognized as a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society in 2012.
