Jessie George Schatz, also known as Bubi, was a German-American Staff Sergeant in the US Military Liaison Mission. Born on August 12, 1954, in Offenbach, he became renowned for his role in a tragic reconnaissance mission on March 24, 1985, where Major Arthur Nicholson was fatally shot. Schatz was one of the most experienced members of his unit with over 150 reconnaissance missions in East Germany. Following Nicholson's death, he testified before several US investigations. He faced intense scrutiny and harassment from the Stasi, the East German secret police, for a decade.
