He served as a town counselor focusing on Youth and Environment from 1987 to 1991, and later as mayor of Aranjuez from 2003 to 2007. Ballesteros was re-elected in 2007, securing an absolute majority. He has held several positions within the Socialist Party and various foundations related to rural development and education. Although he lost the 2011 municipal elections, he currently serves as a regional deputy in the Assembly of Madrid.
