James Brewer, known as Jim Brewer, was an influential African American blues singer and guitarist born on October 3, 1920, in Brookhaven, Mississippi. He moved to Chicago in the 1940s and spent his career as a street musician specializing in blues and gospel music. Though often referred to as 'Blind Jim Brewer', he rejected that label. Brewer performed at numerous blues and folk festivals during the 1960s revival and has recorded two albums. He appeared in four documentary films before passing away in Chicago on June 3, 1988.
