He had a notable career as a rover, later playing for Port Melbourne, where he won multiple premierships. Known for his leadership, he captained Northcote to a grand final win in 1982. He also had a successful cricket career, playing district cricket for Northcote as an all-rounder. His brother, John Christou, was also a footballer, and they played together for many teams.
