Jim Dai, born in May 1962 in Changshu, Jiangsu, is a notable scholar in operations research. He is a fellow of both the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS) and the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS). Dai earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Nanjing University between 1978 and 1985, and obtained his PhD from Stanford University in 1990. He is currently the Leon C. Welch Professor at Cornell University's School of Operations Research and Information Engineering, and the Dean of the School of Data Science at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen.
