James Francis Dinning (born December 4, 1952) is a prominent Canadian Progressive Conservative politician and businessman. He served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1986 to 1997. Dinning made an unsuccessful bid for leadership of the Alberta Progressive Conservatives in 2006, raising over $2 million but losing to Ed Stelmach. He became the 12th Chancellor of the University of Calgary in June 2010 and is currently an advisor to Canada's Ecofiscal Commission.
