James Tice Ellis (1956–2001) was an American computer scientist best known for co-creating Usenet with Tom Truscott. Born in Nashville and raised in Orlando, he graduated from Duke University before working at the Microelectronics Center of North Carolina. Ellis later became an Internet security consultant and served as Manager of Technical Development at CERT. He coined the term Usenet and was awarded the USENIX Lifetime Achievement Award in 1995 along with Truscott, recognizing his significant contributions to the development of online communication.
