James M. Holtgrieve, born on December 26, 1947, in St. Louis, Missouri, is an American amateur golfer known for his amateur successes, including winning the U.S. Mid-Amateur in 1981 and finishing runner-up in the 1983 British Amateur. He played integral roles on three Walker Cup teams and captained in 2011 and 2013. Although he turned professional in 1998 and competed on the Champions Tour, achieving a best finish of T-2nd in 1999, he returned to amateur status in 2007.
