William James Peacock, born on December 14, 1937, is an esteemed Australian molecular biologist. He served as Chief Scientist of Australia from 2006 to 2008 and was President of the Australian Academy of Science from 2002 to 2006. Educated at the University of Sydney, he holds a PhD in genetics and has worked internationally in genetics and molecular biology before returning to Australia. He has contributed to several councils and received the inaugural Prime Minister's Prize for Science in 2000.
