James F. Thomas was an American football guard born on May 6, 1917, in Oilton, Oklahoma. He played for the University of Oklahoma's football team and was a member of the 1938 team that achieved a 10–1 record. Thomas was drafted by the Chicago Cardinals and played in the NFL. Besides football, he was an opera singer with the Metropolitan Opera and served as a lieutenant in the Army during World War II. He later worked as a school teacher and passed away in Florence, South Carolina, in 1981.
