Jim Yong Kim is an American physician and anthropologist of Korean descent, born in Seoul in 1959. He became the 12th president of the World Bank Group in July 2012, appointed by President Barack Obama after a competitive selection process against Nigeria's finance minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. Before leading the World Bank, he served as the president of Dartmouth College in New Hampshire from 2009. He moved to the United States at the age of five with his parents, showcasing a significant academic and leadership trajectory in global health and higher education.
