James Donart Webster, known as Jimmie Webster, was an American guitarist born on August 11, 1908, in Van Wert, Ohio, and died on April 11, 1978, in Long Island, New York. He is recognized as the inventor of two-hand tapping, also known as Touch Guitar. His guitar teacher, Harry DeArmond, introduced him to hammer-on techniques, which Webster further developed into a significant playing style. By 1952, he published 'The Touch System for Electric and Amplified Spanish Guitar,' contributing to the widespread adoption of tapping in guitar playing.
