Jimmy James Ross, also known as Mel Turner, was a Trinidadian singer and composer, born on April 10, 1936. He is best remembered for his 1981 disco hit 'First True Love Affair'. Ross served in the US Navy where he gained recognition for his singing. He later moved to Europe, settling in Belgium, and collaborated with the singer-songwriter Bobbejaan Schoepen. One of his significant contributions was the song 'They Killed the King', a tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. Ross battled emphysema and passed away on March 21, 2000.
