Jiří Šlitr (February 15, 1924 – December 26, 1969) was a Czech composer, virtuoso pianist, singer, actor, illustrator, and visual artist. He significantly influenced Czech popular music and was a key figure in theatrical music, inspiring many stage composers. He co-founded the Semafor Theatre with Jiří Suchý and Ferdinand Havlík in 1959. Šlitr composed over 300 songs, produced his own recital 'Ďábel z Vinohrad' in 1966, and created the musical 'Poslední štace' in 1968. He also wrote music for ten feature films, in which he acted, including 'Kdyby tisíc klarinetů' (1964).
