Jishō Yamamoto was a Japanese Buddhist monk and welfare activist born on January 25, 1902. He is known for his significant contributions to the reunion of Japanese orphans left in China after World War II with their families, helping over 200 orphans reconnect with their relatives. He is often referred to as the 'Father of Chinese Remaining Orphans' and is a graduate of Eizan College, affiliated with Hieizan Seminary. Yamamoto received the 16th Yasunari Kawabata Culture Prize in 1982 for his humanitarian work.
