Joachim Ignatius Sebastian Alva (1907-1979) was an influential Indian lawyer, journalist, and politician from Mangalore, known for his significant role in the Indian independence movement as a Mangalorean Christian leader. After India gained independence, he served as Sheriff of Bombay in 1949, entered the Provisional Parliament in 1950, and was elected to the Lok Sabha multiple times from 1952 to 1962. In 1968, he was nominated to the Rajya Sabha and served until 1974, contributing greatly to Indian politics during his career.
