Joan Carling, born in 1963, is a renowned indigenous Filipino activist dedicated to human rights and environmental issues. For over twenty years, she has championed the rights of marginalized communities, serving as Secretary General of the Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP) and chairing the Cordillera People's Alliance. A contributor to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, she has also participated in REDD+ initiatives and is a member of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues. In 2018, she received the Champions of the Earth Lifetime Achievement Award.
