Joan Elizabeth Curran (February 26, 1916 - February 10, 1999) was a Welsh scientist who played a crucial role in the development of radar and the atomic bomb during World War II. She invented the 'chaff', a radar countermeasure designed to reduce losses among allied bombing crews. Curran also contributed to the development of the 'proximity fuse' and the 'electromagnetic isotope separation' process for the atomic bomb.
