He is the last surviving member of the Pirinenc Regiment No. 1, the first military unit formed by volunteers under the Catalan Republic. Escudé famously fought in the Battle of the Bielsa Pocket, enduring a three-month siege against a larger and better-armed enemy. He continued to fight until the end of the Battle of Ebro, showcasing remarkable bravery and resilience throughout his military service.
