Joanne Chory is a prominent American plant biologist and geneticist of Lebanese descent, born in 1955. She is a professor and director of the Molecular and Cellular Plant Biology Laboratory at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies. Additionally, Chory is an investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and holds the Howard H. and Miriam R. Newman Chair in Plant Biology. She is also an assistant professor of cellular and developmental biology at the University of California, San Diego.
