João Aguardela was a Portuguese singer and musician born on February 2, 1969, in Lisbon. He co-founded the popular folk/pop-rock band Sitiados and the innovative Fado-pop group A Naifa. He established the political pop project Linha da Frente in 1999, setting poems to music. Through his solo project Megafone, he released four albums utilizing electronic music, which are available for free download. This project awards the Prémio Megafone to support forward-thinking Portuguese music traditions. Aguardela passed away from stomach cancer on January 18, 2009, in Lisbon.
