João Augusto Chagas Pestana was a Brazilian engineer and business leader born on March 22, 1936, in Cachoeira do Sul. He played a significant role in the partial privatization of Brazil's energy sector around the year 2000. Pestana became the first Chairman of the Board of Rio Grande Energia, which later became part of CPFL Energia, recognized as the second-largest private group in Brazil for power generation and distribution. He passed away in São Paulo on October 26, 2020.
