João Magueijo is a Portuguese theoretical physicist born in 1967 in Évora, known for his theory of variable speed of light (VSL). He studied physics at the University of Lisbon and received his Ph.D. from St John's College at the University of Cambridge. He has held positions at Princeton University and the University of Cambridge and is currently a professor at Imperial College London. In 1998, he developed the VSL theory with Andreas Albrecht to address cosmological problems like the horizon problem without the need for inflation. He published a popular science book in 2003 about his theory.
