João Soares Lyra Neto is a Brazilian businessman and politician born on January 24, 1947, in Caruaru. He served as the governor of Pernambuco and is affiliated with the Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB). Lyra Neto held various political positions including mayor of Caruaru, serving two terms from 1989 to 1993 and then from 1997 to 2000. He was also a state deputy and vice-governor from 2007 to 2014, as well as the health secretary of Pernambuco from 2008 to 2010. Additionally, he was the vice-leader of the Government of Miguel Arraes in the Pernambuco Legislative Assembly.
