Joe Donchess was an American football player celebrated for his time at the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned unanimous All-American honors as an end in 1929 under coach Jock Sutherland. Beyond his athletic achievements, he had a distinguished medical career, becoming Assistant Chief Surgeon at U.S. Steel in 1937 and later Chief Surgeon in 1943, a position he maintained until retirement in 1965. His legacy in football was honored posthumously with his election to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1979.
