Joe Mamasela (born June 2, 1953) is a former spy and assassin for the Apartheid regime in South Africa. He was involved in the torture and murders of several anti-apartheid activists, notably Griffiths Mxenge. Serving as an askari, he was part of the notorious Vlakplaas counterinsurgency unit, which operated under the command of Eugene de Kock. Mamasela's actions contributed to the violent suppression of anti-apartheid movements during this tumultuous period in South African history.
