Joseph Arthur Nelson was an American basketball player born on March 16, 1927. He played college basketball at Brigham Young University (BYU), where he was an All-American and set the Skyline Conference single-game scoring record with a 37-point game. He was a three-time all-conference player, leading the league in scoring in 1948 and 1949. Nelson was drafted by the Rochester Royals in 1950 but later played in the National Professional Basketball League before retiring from basketball to pursue a business career. He passed away on July 20, 2009.
